Introduce yourself to We Are Epic

Arrange a 20-minute video call, just about you and your work.

We want to know who you are and about the work you’re making.

We’re offering 20-minute intro calls so you can introduce yourself, tell us about your art, and help us understand your practice. The more we know about you, the better placed we are to spot opportunities to work with you (commissions, connections, collaborations, partnerships etc).

Who is this for?

These calls are currently open to UK-based artists over the age of 18 and working in performing arts (including music, theatre, performance poetry, dance, and more).

We particularly want to hear from Disabled or Neurodivergent artists, and artists from underrepresented backgrounds.

We know that too many artists miss out on opportunities simply because they aren’t connected to the right networks. Research consistently shows that most freelance arts work comes through personal recommendations and repeat bookings … which puts artists who are newer, more isolated, or facing additional barriers at a real disadvantage. These introduction meetings are one of the ways we are trying to level that playing field.

What happens on the call?

It’s relaxed and informal. You share a bit about yourself and your work, we listen, ask a few questions, and get to know you. There’s no pitch, no audition, and no pressure.

All calls take place online, so there’s no travel involved. If you have any access needs, please let us know when you book and we’ll do our best to make sure the call works for you.

Why we think this is important

Research has consistently shown that career progression in the arts is driven by being in the right place at the right time and meeting the right people. The role of “chance” in creative careers has an unfair impact on underrepresented groups — in particular disabled artists, who may face additional barriers that prevent them from being present at these opportunities.

This disadvantage is cyclical. People continue to hire creatives from their own networks, which means those who have already had the right opportunities are more likely to secure future work.

We hope that bookable online meetings can reduce some of these barriers, and believe that wider adoption of “introduction meetings” could help to reduce the role of chance in artistic career progression.

"Disabled dance professionals’ career development is affected by chance meetings with champions and mentors. ... However, disabled dance professionals face unfair disadvantages in relation to chance meetings due to individual access needs."
'Barriers to Progression and Employment in Dance for Disabled People' Report 2025
"81% of freelancers reported that they found out about work opportunities through personal recommendations, and 56% through repeat bookings, corroborating concerns that it is difficult to find and access work opportunities if you are not already connected to networks, or if you come from an under-represented background."
Arts Council England's 'Creative and Cultural Freelancers Report' 2024
"Our consultations reinforced the importance of virtual and digital options, especially for those with very complex medical needs or living in rural areas."
